Here, I played against SuperNinja128. I like this chap. Doesn't disconnect. In a game where online play gives absolutely no penalties at all for disconnecting, people who don't disconnect are valuable. They hold up integrity.
The planet I'm using this time is Starrii. It's home to a goddess of the same name, and she has 1,000 attendants who are also oracles and make up the population of this planet. Presumably, I'm playing as one of the oracles and not the goddess herself. Looking at the appearance of the oracle and hearing the music that plays, I'll bet Starrii was inspired by Greco-Roman mythology. It feels like the sort of place to have columns and flowing waterfalls and all that. But even a place like this is under threat of the Meteos. You've seen before how Hevendor fell under attack, a realm populated by 7 sages, who had ascended to a higher plane of existence, and even they had to defend themselves for self-preservation.
Starrii is a planet that comes right before Planet Meteo itself in the original DS game. I don't understand why, as Starrii is very easy to use. Starrii has 8 columns instead of the usual 9, has very strong ignitions (both vertical and horizontal), has Gambit as its Planet Impact which is the easiest one to use, and isn't bothered much by falling garbage blocks. It has two weaknesses, which aren't hard to overcome: It's a low scorer so chances are it won't win by merely outlasting the opponent; and it has 6 colors of Meteos instead of the usual 5, so it may be harder to find a match than usual. Together, this means Starrii is best playing a pressure game, rapidly bringing Meteos off the top of the screen and charging up the garbage block meter on the far side of the screen. (Again, ease of use does NOT mean imbalance, just a more managable learning curve.)
This is exactly my approach here, and unfortunately SupernInja128 hit a snag on the first round. He almost managed to clear a filled column, but the game gave him a loss just short of doing so. He's using Jeljel (see Mission Mode 4-2 if you're unfamiliar with the planet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbYVACQ4zNY ). Jeljel is a planet that doesn't respond well to pressure, as it has weak secondary ignitions. It needs to do many ignitions in order to clear Meteos completely off the screen if the cluster gets too large.
The second round lasted a lot longer and brings up another thing about Jeljel that you'd need to practice with: Jeljel has New Meteos, which manifest as black in color, similar to burnt out garbage blocks. If you're not used to them, you could easily confuse them for burnt out blocks and ignore them by mistake. I'm impressed SuperNinja128 took the pressure for so long, since as I went, this pressure got heavier and heavier.
I won my first online match and am rewarded with the Geolyte accessory. Pretty odd that Geolyte, being the main character planet, would have an accessory that would've taken me this long to get. But I guess the game designers expected online play to be a big thing with many people playing.
